Love and Light,
When I was practicing law full time, the anxiety wouldn’t really hit me until I was in the car on my way to work in the morning. For some people, it’s the anticipation at night before you go to bed that really impacts you.
I never really had the time to notice how anxious I was until I rushed around every morning, hoping to have enough time to grab a banana and a cup of coffee (which then rolled around the floor of my car for a week).
But as I got in the car, I had a sliver of time to worry about all the things that were on my plate for the day – and even some of those that I had no control over.
When I did get to the office, I had to pry myself out of the car – thinking of all the things that I would rather be doing. This was my 5 minutes of what I called escapism.
Every day, I would include in my schedule a few minutes here and there when I could focus on me and read a spiritual article or listen to a podcast or meditation – but these were the first things that were cut as my day spiraled out of control.
Have you ever been scared that people would hear you listening to a meditation or some spiritual webinar?
Do you have something ready to click over to in case someone walks into your office while you are reading Aspire Mag?
These are things I always did, and I carried guilt because of it.
So now, I set aside bigger blocks of time and I require myself to honor those, just like they are appointments with a client.
As I found more in my day that felt aligned with who I really am, the anxiety started to wane. Now my days are entirely different. I work best in the morning, so I get up early and ease into my day.
I still go to the office most days, but I get there when I get there – always after a cup or 2 of mushroom coffee – yep I’m totally weird… and I LOVE it!
