At this point in our world, everything we have thought, believed and felt up to this point has been questioned and amplified and open to review. There is no longer a normal and certainly no normal to be expected to return.
I have been taking this opportunity to review the stories that I have been feeding into… My money story… my relationship story… my identity story. All of the stories that you have bought into or created yourself may no longer be relevant and applicable. I know this sounds earth shattering, but shit, what a beautiful chance to be reborn anew, without all the drama we usually create in this space.
I am focusing on what my beliefs around money are, this week. I am working on a module for a program I am rolling out and it has brought up all the layers of my own money story.
MY STORY
I was raised by a bra-burning revolutionary mother and a pious grandmother who lived through the depression. (Totally aware of the chaos in those layers and all the places they show up but let’s focus on the money story, just for today.)
The joke about my grandmother was that she would drive 13 miles just to save 4 cents on produce. She even added water to ketchup bottles to “stretch” it. She has never wasted anything in her life, from her perspective. And my mother is still an “I got this” kind of energy about everything, including money. So I would say that mixed signals sum up my childhood perspective of money, wealth and lack. Don’t waste it. Don’t expect anyone to support you. Work hard. Use it responsibly. Those are some of the highlights. There was also a direct correlation between intelligence and wealth in the belief patterns of my family.
So where does that leave me and where do I go from here. First – I have to connect with what is true for me, in general and distill that down to money. What I identify as truth must have evidence supporting that truth. This is the key where I have found huge success in rewriting all my stories. I love assembling the evidence that supports the story I want to create.
The other side of this introspection is considering what my story has cost me. Have I walked away from people that were amazing because of some underlying fear flowing from my story? I have definitely lost time and opportunities because I have been listening to a soundtrack that has caused me to dig in and infuse judgment into my analysis of every situation.
Right now, when the world’s concept of money is shifting, this is the perfect time to look at how you are showing up for money and how it is showing up for you.
Take this opportunity to dig in and consider what has your current story cost you and what would be a better story to support the experience you are manifesting.
