Recently,  I pulled the Butterfly Maiden card from my Goddess deck. I didn’t know much about her, so my first thought was to do some research. The security of other people’s knowledge has been my default, for a very long time.

In that moment, the wings of the Butterfly Maiden washed over me and firmly, but with immeasurable compassion nudged me toward the awareness that I have access to all that I need. The Butterfly Maiden exists for and within all of us. She supports us in times of change and reinvention. She also reminds us that we are boundless and in challenging times, we can transmute negativity into energy that truly supports our evolution as a human and a soul. I know those are indistinguishable to many, but the often evolve at different rates, so the distinction may become important for some.

As I relaxed into her presence, she began showing me images that played across the drive in theater screen in my head. I saw deep ravines and beautiful trees, with birds soaring and water running below. I knew that I had been in this place before.

As I settled back into my body, Butterfly Maiden brought my awareness to the changes that are rippling throughout the world right now and gave me a new perspective on my role within the world. I have always thought of myself as a messenger. Spirit gives me shit and I share it. I have seen my role grow into that of a change agent – the conduit helping others to exact the change they desire in themselves… and of course – it starts with me.

Once my experience with the Butterfly Maiden was over (although she remains available any time I invoke her), of course I did a little search on her to see what I could find. I was not surprised to find that she is of Hopi heritage and a kachina. Last fall, I had a free day in Arizona, so I visited the Kachina Village and stood in the exact spot she had shown me. It felt so familiar because I had been called there less than a year ago. It is convenient when the research validates the image. But I don’t need the research to validate my experience.

I will be sure to plant a few extra butterfly bushes this spring to pay homage to the Butterfly Maiden who is guiding and supporting us through this time of immense change.

Are you open and inviting change, or is something holding you back?
