The chaos of the holidays takes a toll on everyone -trying to accommodate parties, people, presents and the bills associated with all of them – is enough to make anyone break out in anxiety related hives… But for those who are more spiritually and energetically sensitive this added stress can make you want to run for the hills and leave your cell phone behind.
Do NOT fear… there are ways to cope and truly enjoy the holidays while you defuse some of the related stress. Here are a few ideas to help you approach this holiday with a renewed spirit and knowledge that you do not have to be a victim to anyone else’s energy or chaos and drama.
1) Honor yourself and your space. Most of us want everything to be great for everyone we love, especially during the holidays. Living on coffee and sugar cookies to stay up late wrapping presents or getting up early to make a trip to a big box store – trying to find the perfect gift. Don’t lose sight of your own wellness.
The more worn out you are the more susceptible you are going to be to negative energies of others. While you are shopping on-line or wrapping those perfect gifts, indulge yourself in a glass of wine or herbal tea. Lock yourself in the bathroom and take a lavender and epsom salts bath – add some coconut oil to the bath water too, but not too much [it will clog the drain if you are too heavy handed].
Set aside “you” time. I change my routine to get up a little earlier than normal during the holidays. It’s dark out in the morning, either way, so it doesn’t really feel any different. I spend that extra half an hour doing things I want to do – that are not electronic! I enjoy my coffee, read a few pages in a book, pull an oracle card or even just sit and absorb the quiet stillness that is early morning.
Set boundaries – maybe you close your office door for the entire lunch hour, or close your bedroom door for 15 minutes without disruption – make sure everyone else in the house knows that they are not to disturb you unless the house is ablaze.
Whatever your choice to honor your soul and body, make sure to enjoy every moment of it and remind yourself that you deserve this and more!
The swirling energy of the holidays can really have your head spinning, so get out of your mind and get firmly planted in your heart and soul! The holidays are a wonderful time of year to let go of all that has been holding us back all year long – take advantage of the warmth and love of those around you and capitalize on the opportunity to ground and center yourself, so then you can enjoy all the festivities without the distraction of negativity!
2) Ground and Center! We all walk around in our heads, completely unaware of how ungrounded we are. Grounding takes a few minutes and can help with your energy levels, health and wellness and to manage stress. There are many ways to ground. If you live in an area that isn’t freezing this holiday season, a great way to ground is to put your bare feet on the ground, grass or dirt. For those who can’t really do that, you can use a plant. Put your hands in the dirt – feel the dense grounding energy of the dirt.
Crystals and gemstones can also help ground you. I tell women all the time to put some in your bra. Use the ones that you are drawn to or learn to program them yourself with a specific vibration and intention. It’s not hard at all!
Essential oils can also help ground you. Frankincense and Myrrh aren’t just from that old story – they are really amazing oils that you can diffuse to help ground you or you can even anoint yourself and draw in the amazing vibration of these grounding and healing oils.
The intention of grounding will create a huge difference in the flow of energy around and through you. It allows the flow of negativity through your energy field so it doesn’t get stuck in you. Don’t take on baggage of others… we all have plenty of our own.
Now ditch the drama and enjoy your holidays with lots of love and light illuminating your soul!
Love and Light,
