I have been stuffing my own intuition down for at least 6 months, when it comes to what I have been eating. It all started when I went for a hypnosis regression back in October. I have always been an advocate of a balanced diet, high protein low carbs… It was in an attempt to gain control of my blood sugar, but I secretly loved carbs and felt better when I ate them.

At that session, I started having nudges to reduce the amount of animal products I was consuming… not for some animals have feelings too reason, but because I was being lead to believe (by my own internal voice) that a more plant based diet may be more nourishing for my body and my energy.

Then I was listening to an old recording from one of my mentors and she talked about receiving very similar guidance when she was growing her connection with spirit and certain ascended masters. She went on to explain that once she made the transition, she gained clarity and more certainty in her energy. These ideas appealed to me, so I put plant based eating on the list… It was already on my list for things to consider, but it was now a few notches higher.

I picked up a magazine about conscious and intentional living and there was an article, that I specifically avoided, until I just couldn’t resist it any longer. It may have been a little farther into the world of plant based eating than I was ready to commit, but it was entitled, something like “Why the world needs to eat plant based”. There was much information about methane and water, all valid points, but I am still grappling with the reality of making this choice on a personal level. We do, after all, raise animals for consumption on our farm.

I have been receiving emails from a list that is all about controlling diabetes, for yep… about 6 months… never opened one… when a video came across my feed about a man who had an ironically similar story to mine, so I watched it. He is following the suggestions of those emails I don’t read and has experienced huge improvements in his overall health, blood sugar control and weight. I don’t talk much about weight, but it has been an ongoing struggle for me, for my entire life.

Still – I had better things to do than open those emails and make the commitment to what I saw as the biggest change ever… I would be foregoing a part of my identity – at least the identity I had convinced myself was truly mine. Until I had a session of rapid transformational therapy with a friend. We all have shit we need to work through, so I thought I was working through some self-perception, value things… and BAM! Done with animal products…. I am still not ready to embrace the term vegan. I like plant based diet… it is softer to me.

Monday morning, I woke up and had a protein shake, which was low in carbs and my blood sugar was off the chart. Finally, I heard my intuition and I relented. I gave up all animal products and I haven’t looked back. Within a day, I felt great. I had more energy and brain fog (that I didn’t even know was there) was gone. My blood sugar was perfect.

Bananas have historically been a huge trigger for blood sugar spikes. I ate one for breakfast today and my blood sugar hasn’t deviated more than 5 points. I am able to eat fruit without being concerned that I am eating too many carbs… I even had a piece of toast, with coconut butter and it was delicious and without guilt.

Admittedly, I do love cheese and I have not yet tried nut cheese, but I hear it’s good. So I had a piece of pizza at my cousin’s. It didn’t taste as amazing as I had contrived in my head and within 15 minutes, I felt congested and like heartburn was setting in. So pizza just became worse than donuts for me. Sleep was non-existent for me that night and at 247AM, as i was thrashing my blankets with frustration, I decreed I AM a plant based eater!

I am certainly not advocating for what you should eat… that is between you and your body, but I am urging you to listen to what your intuition and your higher self are telling you… They actually do have the answers and they always know what is in your best interest, especially when you don’t… At least listen without your ego stopping you. And it is totally okay, if you listen for a long time before you take action. Listening is really the first step!
