As I was strolling through the bar at a local Chamber of Commerce event, a long time legal client grabbed my attention and waved me to a corner table. He said – “I heard something really weird about you. Do you see ghosts?”
What did I have to hide anymore? This was the first time that I had been directly confronted by a client about who I really was…. Why the hell not?
“Bill, it’s not like Ghost Hunters. I am a medium and I communicate directly with spirit.” He stared at me blankly… clearly he had NO idea what to say. I then went on to ask him if he wanted to know more, or was he asking because he thought in some way this would affect our professional relationship.
He was scared now and it was rather amusing… his lawyer, who knew more about the “skeletons” in his closet than his wife, can talk to dead people. I could see the thoughts process more slowly than he wanted, as he tried to stumble through saying “Oh, well, that’s cool… ya, um. so … I’m gonna grab another drink.”
What are people going to think about my professional persona?
Are clients still going to want to use me?
Will they judge me?
Will people think I am not a good lawyer because I have a spiritual side too?
Well… none of those fears really matter. I was out of the spiritual broom closet and that one can’t be repacked.
This was a huge leap of faith for me. I had been living a dual life for a while. I did spiritual readings on the down low and even used a pseudonym for some work I did on-line.
Then my mentor asked me what I was so afraid of that kept me playing so small. The answer was self-confidence. I realized and admitted that I had a limiting belief that I couldn’t do both, but there was no basis in that fear. No logical reason!
So if you are thinking about your job not really fulfilling you and not being aligned with your spiritual side, then let’s chat!
