There is always a list of things that are calling your name or twanging on that guilt that you should be paying attention to them. Resist the urge to give into to all the pressure. Give yourself that freedom of a few minutes to yourself. Honor yourself and the time you need to restore, rejuvenate and relax!

Candlelit bubble bath

All I wanna do is take a bath, shave my legs and not look at my phone… is that too much to ask? No dogs, no kids, no husband and no FB!!! You are the most important element in all that you do so it really is of utmost importance to take care of you and to pamper and honor yourself.

Here are things you can do for yourself that take literally 5 minutes!

1. Take a walk outside There is nothing more grounding and restorative than being outside. Smell the flowers and feel the grass under your feet. There is nothing that can help you to ground and feel at ease faster than being in nature and feeling the earth under your feet. It doesn’t have to be a long walk… just a few minutes of fresh air and sunshine or peering at the starts will change your entire outlook!

2. Take a bath  OK… so this is more effective if you have a little more than 5 minutes, but take what you have the time for. I add coconut oil, epsom salt or sea salt and essential oils to my bath… this is the only place that I shave my legs… I am 6’3″… that’s a lot of leg to shave so I prefer to do it sitting down… no slipping in the shower while balancing on one leg either. Take the time to enjoy this cleansing ritual.

3. Meditate  Sitting still for 5 minutes is an amazing exercise. You don’t have to empty your thoughts to effectively meditate. I often visualize during meditation. When I do intentional meditation (meditation with specific intention), I often see myself walking down the same path into the woods. I use a path from my grandmother’s farm that I walked as a child regularly. If you need to check out YouTube and use a guided meditation that is completely fine. There are certainly methods of meditation that you can couple with a walk outside and derive the same benefit!

4. Enjoy a cup of Herbal Tea Choose the tea that resounds with you, but know that this act of self care is calming and restorative without the caffeine kick that coffee has. Teas have been used for millennia to tap the healing powers of herbs. Today we have never before enjoyed access to great quality teas from around the world. My favorite is citrus lavender sage from Teavana… we call ourselves Tea snobs, but hey – there are way worse things that I could be into… like haggis or something… No offense to the Scots! I can’t wait to try it on my planned trip to Scotland.

5. Journal/ Brainstorm  Get it all out… just write it down, spew your truth. If you have specific issues that you need to address, you can also write truth letters and then burn them in a fire and let it go to the universe. It is more effective to actually write. I know it’s easier to type on the computer… but the vibration of the pen and paper is far more cathartic and you can really gain perspective from doing this. I recently went back and read my journal entires from a few years ago…. it’s amazing the depth of things that I have worked through and journaling has propelled that!

Put yourself on a pedestal… let the world revolve without you being available to answer every beck and call for a few minutes. As summer rolls in, I make sure to have my coffee on my deck every morning and squeeze in a little meditation for as long as I can.

Have a great week and take care of you!!!
